Who are the politically persecuted
This section contains current data on persons involved in politically motivated cases.
How long they have been persecuted
What they are prosecuted for
In this section you can find detailed data on political persecutions. Each chart shows the unique number of persecuted persons; however, one person may be prosecuted simultaneously under:
- several criminal articles, for example, for spreading "fake news" and calls to extremism at the same time;
- several persecution "themes", for example, for freedom of speech and freedom of assembly;
- several case groups, for example, under the Anti-War case and cases against "foreign agents".
Where they are persecuted
This section shows the locations of persons involved in politically motivated criminal cases. In most cases we know the region where the investigation was conducted, not the actual place of residence of the persecuted person.
Regions and occupied territories where people are tortured for political reasons — this is a list of regions where imprisonment or sentences are being served.
OVD-Info publishes data on persecutions in the occupied territories of Crimea and Sevastopol — repressions there are carried out by Russian security agencies, and we are able to verify this data.
What sentences courts have handed down
This section contains information about verdicts against persons in politically motivated criminal cases. For each type of verdict (imprisonment, fine, etc.) we counted the unique number of convicted persons. A single politically persecuted person may have received several types of punishment — for example, one person may have been imprisoned, fined, and banned from certain activities.
